Media Items
A Media Item is an item of video content that has been ingested into yospaceCDS. This can be through one of the Input Feed mechanisms described below, or if the video has been manually uploaded using the Content Management console.
A Media Item can belong to more than one Content Group (described below). When a Media Item belongs to more than one Content Group, it cannot be deleted before it is removed from all but the last Content Group it is a member of.
When viewing the contents of a Content Group, each Media Item is displayed as pictured with its ID and Title (34023 – Briton gets "best job in the world"), duration, and options to Edit or Delete/Remove it.

| This Media Item is shown with a Delete option because it is a member of only one Group. | The Remove option is shown instead of Delete when the Media Item is a member of more than one Content Group. |
Manual Upload of Media Items
You can manually upload media items using the Upload Content screen.
Important: If you have uploaded a video manually using the Content Management console, then you will need to add RSS Details to the Media Item in order for it to be published within an RSS Output Feed. See below for more details on this.
Editing Media Items
Selecting the Edit option next to a Media Item takes you to the Edit Content page. This page is structured into three sections, Overview, Content Groups and RSS Details.
Overview

This tab allows you to review and change the basic properties of the Media Item. The Download MPEG-2 link allows you to download a high quality MPEG-2 version of the selected Media Item.
- Identifier
- The ID of the Media Item -- this ID is unique across all yospaceCDS objects
- Created On
- The time that the Media Item was created in yospaceCDS. This is different from an item's Publish Date, which is an RSS Concept (see below: RSS Details).
- Duration
- The length of the video in seconds.
- Name
- The editable title of the video. This is what is displayed in the Content Management console when the Media Item is displayed, however may differ from the Media Item's title when it is published in an RSS Feed (see RSS Details below).
- Description
- An editable description displayed in the Content Management console. May differ to the description given when the Media Item is published in an RSS Feed (see RSS Details below).
Content Groups
The Content Groups tab allows you to add or remove Content Groups to which the Media Item is a member. On this tab, you cannot remove the Media Item from all Content Groups, instead you have to delete the Media Item from its final Content Group.
RSS Details

Items with associated RSS Details can be published within an RSS Output Feed. If the Media Item has been ingested from an RSS or FTP Input Feed, then the information given on this tab is what was picked up by yospaceCDS when the item was ingested.
If you change RSS Details on an item ingested by an RSS or FTP, these associated details will be permanently changed for this item (in other words, the RSS Input Feed does not override what you edit in this tab).
Important: If you have uploaded a video manually using the Content Management console, then you will need to add RSS Details to the Media Item in order for it to be published within an RSS Output Feed.
- GUID
- The Global Unique Identifier for the RSS Item. If the Media Item was ingested via an RSS Input Feed then the GUID will be set to whatever was indicated in the RSS XML. If the item was manually uploaded, this GUID will be set automatically by yospaceCDS.
- Title
- The title of the Media Item as it will be published in an RSS Output Feed.
- Description
- A short description of the Media Item as it will be published in an RSS Output Feed
- Teaser Text
- A short abstract or teaser that will be published in the RSS Output Feed
- Original Content URL
- The URL from which the original video was downloaded by yospaceCDS. This is used internally by yospaceCDS and cannot be edited. It is provided in the RSS Details tab for information purposes only and is not published in any RSS Output Feed.
- Custom Thumbnail URL
- Allows you to set a URL for a custom (editorially chosen, for example) thumbnail. Leaving this blank will provide a default thumbnail generated by yospaceCDS, taken approximately 5 seconds into the start of the video.
- Published On
- This is the Published Date of the Media Item as it will be expressed in the RSS Output Feed. The date is expressed in current UK time (observing British Summer Summer/Daylight Savings Time). yospaceCDS publishes Media Items in Published Date order (most recent first) when publishing an RSS Output Feed. This field accepts a variety of date formats (see below).
