STV Player first to provide targetable Dynamic Ad Insertion in live streaming on Amazon Fire TV

Posted on

STV Player has announced it is the first broadcaster globally to provide fully targetable Dynamic Ad Insertion (DAI) in live streaming on Amazon Fire TV.

The service is powered by Yospace, whose server-side DAI platform allows advertising to be replaced in a way that is consistent with the viewing experience expected of broadcast television. By inserting ads on the server side, the process of delivering fully addressable advertising across multiple platforms/devices is significantly simplified, and this has allowed STV to implement a true multi-platform advertising strategy.

STV Player with DAI-enabled live streaming is available across all Fire TV devices, including the all-new Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote which was launched by Amazon earlier this month.

Rémi Brunier, STV Player product owner, said: “STV was first in the UK to launch DAI live on web, iOS and Android in 2014 and we are thrilled to again be first to provide DAI on Amazon Fire TV, offering further value for advertisers with fully targeted commercials in live streaming. STV was a launch partner of the Amazon Fire TV in 2014 and today’s announcement further strengthens our partnership.”

Tim Sewell, CEO of Yospace, said: “STV has been leading the way in live streaming for a number of years now. Following the launch of Dynamic Ad Insertion for STV Player in 2014 every other UK broadcaster has followed suit, and now it is leading the way in implementing a full cross-platform strategy. The launch of DAI for Fire TV demonstrates that STV continue to operate at the cutting edge of commercial television.”

Amazon Fire TV was STV Player’s fastest growing distribution channel in 2016, highlighting the growth of OTT viewing as STV continues to make its content available free of charge to viewers anywhere, anytime.

STV, Scotland’s leading digital company and commercial broadcaster, has launched STV Watch Live, a new live streaming service with dynamic real time ad replacement on the STV Player.

STV Watch Live allows users in STV’s licence areas in Scotland to watch STV programmes live online, including top entertainment shows, comprehensive news and current affairs, and matches from the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

STV Watch Live is available online via STV Player and on iOS and Android mobile and tablet device.  STV Glasgow, STV’s new city TV channel, is also streamed live.

In a UK first, STV is working with Yospace, The Dynamic Ad Insertion Company (DAI), and leading global video ad serving and management specialist Videoplaza to deliver dynamic ad replacement and ad targeting across live streaming content.

Yospace’s seamless content replacement solution allows STV to manage its ad inventory during live streams and monetise these across a wide range of platforms through more effective ad targeting.

Alistair Brown, Chief Technology and Platforms Officer at STV, said: “We were delighted to launch live streaming on the STV Player in time for viewers to watch this summer’s World Cup.  STV always strives to offer content that is truly multi-platform, allowing consumers to watch their favourite STV programmes free of charge, anytime and anywhere they choose.

“With Videoplaza’s technology we can efficiently manage our video ad inventory across all our STV Player platforms, and working with Yospace means we can now extend this relationship to live streaming.”

Tim Sewell, Chief Executive Officer at Yospace, said: “The ability for broadcasters like STV to effectively monetise live streams across multiple platforms, whilst ensuring delivery of a true broadcast quality user experience, is key to the commercial success of simulcast. This is clearly never more true than during major events like the FIFA World Cup, and we’re delighted to be powering STV Live.”

“We’re very excited to play a part in enabling STV to deliver real time digital ad replacement within their live streams”, said Stephen Byrne, Commercial Director UK for Videoplaza. “We think digital ad replacement is a huge opportunity for broadcasters to provide their audiences with free access to exclusive content whilst simultaneously unlocking additional video advertising revenues, and STV has achieved another UK first with this initiative.”

STV, Scotland’s leading digital company and commercial broadcaster, is working with content replacement technology provider Yospace and video ad serving and management specialist Videoplaza to deliver targeted ad content for simulcast, live streaming and VoD, in a UK first.

Using Yospace’s seamless content replacement solution will allow STV to dynamically manage its ad inventory during live streams, and monetise simulcasts across a wide range of platforms through more effective ad targeting.

The technology was tested during a week long Private Beta during August 2013 and included the simulcast of the recent England v Scotland football match at Wembley.

Earlier this year, STV announced it has selected leading global video ad serving and management platform, Videoplaza to monetise its TV content across current and future digital platforms.

Alistair Brown, Chief Technology and Platforms Officer at STV, said: “We are very excited to announce this partnership with Yospace. Videoplaza provides the technology that allows us to very effectively manage our video ad inventory across all our STV Player platforms – from iOS and Android devices to Smart TVs and YouView. Working with Yospace means we can extend this relationship to simulcast and live streaming.

Tim Sewell, CEO of Yospace, said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with STV and Videoplaza in this genuine UK first which sees simulcast finally coming of age. Adoption of our content replacement technology is enabling STV to unlock entirely new, highly targeted inventory across the full range of connected devices.”

“We’re delighted to continue our partnership with STV which continues to evolve its approach to digital TV”, commented Stephen Byrne, Commercial Director for Videoplaza. “With the live opportunity, the lines are becoming further blurred between traditional broadcast TV and digital, easing the transition of TV ad spend into the online world. In collaboration with Yospace, we can deliver a fully flexible live and simulcast advertising offering, meaning STV can take full advantage of the flow of ad spend from TV to digital.”
